A problem I encountered and how I solved it
Hello blog readers!
Well, I have a problem now. Do you know what problem is that?
Now, what is the meaning of the word "problem"? That is the question. "Problem", as defined by the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English, is a situation that causes difficulties or a question for which a person has to think carefully to get the right answer.
Okay, lets not beat about the bush. What is my problem? Well, I am deciding which computer to buy for myself. For me, I am a "Apple Fanboy", meaning a male who is a fan of Apple's products, so I will definitely go with the Mac computers. However, there are many different kinds of Macs, and I have chosen the 2 choices that I will consider buying. I am also new to Macs as I have been using PCs for a long time.
The 2 Macs are the MacBook Pro and the iMac. Why did I narrow down to these 2 products? Well, because these 2 Macs have the best performance. To me, I favour performance over mobility. Thats why I narrowed down my choice to the MacBook Pro, which is quite heavy, but its quite fast, and the iMac, the best all-in-one computer, meaning the CPU tower that you see in other products is now integrated into a single LCD screen.
I mentioned that I prefer performance over mobility, but why did I not choose the Mac Pro, the fastest computer. Well, the main reason is that it has a CPU tower, making the computer very bulky, and it is also very expensive as the display is sold separately, costing $5136!
The MacBook Pro, as you can tell from the name, is a notebook. If I would to buy this, I would definitely buy the 17 inch model, costing $3398 which is quite expensive. My father was agreeable with the price and it was also very convenient as I can bring it around.
The iMac, is a desktop, as I have mentioned. I wanted to buy the 27 inch iMac, costing $2888, but my mother said that there was not enough space in my small room. So, I could only buy the 21.5 inch model, costing $2188.
Why, you might ask, was the MacBook Pro more expensive than the iMac despite the iMac being better than the MacBook Pro in terms of the technical specifications. Well, because the MacBook Pro is mobile. Things have to be fitted more tightly in the MacBook Pro than in the large iMac.
I had a dilemma over which Mac to buy. I asked my relatives for their opinions, I asked my friends, and also online! I asked other people from all over the world which computer would be a better choice.
Mobility or performance? That is the question. I finally decided.
Performance. That is the answer.
I went down to CitySquare Mall, just beside my house at CitySquare Residences, and went to the Apple vendor in Best Denki and bought an iMac.
So here I am, posting this blog on an iMac. It feels much more professional than a traditional PC.
But, I don't have a laptop now. Maybe I can tell my mother to buy a MacBook Pro for herself, but I will be the one using it!
Oops, I just found out its time for dinner. Goodbye!

Something unusual that happened that day
Hello blog readers!
Well, today was really a special day for me as I witnessed my first flood. Do you know where the flood was?
Can you guess it? The answer is Singapore! I bet you think I'm lying but its real! Imagine Singapore being flooded! And do you know where in Singapore? Yes! The flood occurred at Orchard Road!
For me, I was at the scene witnessing that very event, the first flood of Singapore since around 1960s! You might ask, why was I there? Well, because I had to attend a NCC course about Electricity Conservation at 313 Somerset. We had to wear our full No. 4 (In case you didn't know, the No. 4 is the name of our NCC uniform).
Around 1pm, we were dismissed and we started to walk to the MRT station to go back home. We walked along the pavement that was right at the side of the 4 lane road. At first, it was not flooded, but it rained very heavily. Slowly, the water suddenly rose to ankle level.

After only around 10 minutes, the water level rose to waist level! I was in the flood but I just continued walking in the flood. On Stomp, I saw some pictures of me and my fellow cadets in the flood! Finally, I was a celebrity! (Some wishful thinking on my part)
Well, it was really a very unique experience to really be in the flood and moving around in the water in my No. 4. However, after that, I had a terrible time drying my clothes as I cannot possibly ride in the MRT in my soaked attire.

I also saw a man swimming in the flood! Hilarious! Maybe its too hot in Singapore and he has to cool down by taking a bath in the flood!
Wow, come to think of it, it was really fun in the flood! However, I hope that the authorities can find out the cause of the problem and solve it quickly to prevent future floods that may cause many shopping centres to flood, causing a big problem for shop owners.
Oops, have to go for dinner now!
Goodbye!

Something that took place in school
Hello blog readers!
Well, what is Literature? That is the question. Well, to me it is not just another subject. It is something like History and English because Literature is the old kind of English written in the past. Most popular would be the works by William Shakespeare.
What do you think about going to school? That is the question. Well, for me it is something like an enjoyment because I can see my friends and also gain more knowledge everyday.
Today I woke up at 6pm at usual and my father will always bring me to Kallang Bahru to have some noodles. I reached there around 6.20pm then after that I went to school. I reached school around 6.55pm.
It was the day for me to mark as a prefect, that is, to assign people to their duties and then give comments on the way they carry out their duty.
On Friday we had English, Mathematics, Literature and Science. Today was quite special because we had a Literature test.
Well, what is Literature? That is the question. Well, to me it is not just another subject. It is something like History and English because Literature is the old kind of English written in the past. Most popular would be the works by William Shakespeare. So, today was a test about a story written by William Shakespeare, known as "Hamlet". Hamlet is a tragedy, with the protagonist and the antagonist dying together.
Well, the test was something like a movie review. Why do I say so? Because the test was about 3 excepts of films from Act 5 Scene 1 of Hamlet.
The 3 different kinds of Hamlet by Laurence Olivier in 1948, Mel Gibson in 1990, and Kenneth Branagh in 1996.
The questions included which films portrayed the text best. It was quite easy and I finished the test at 11.05pm but the test was supposed to be until 11.25pm.
The test was the biggest thing in school on Friday.
Today was a happy day for me as I have finished my Literature test. For me, I will be happy when I finish my tests as I will not be so stressed. Also, today is the last day of the week, and I can finally have a break.
Time for sleep now!
Goodbye!

Doing Something I Enjoy Alone
Hello blog readers again!
Well, it's been a really long time since I've updated my blog because I have been busy with studies. School is really a bit too stressful and I feel that there is really a need to let go some stress by enjoying myself.
But, what should I do? That is the question.
I have tried many various methods including playing computer games and exercising and so on. I think that playing computer games is something I really enjoy alone. I play different kinds of games including games on Facebook, and also games like MapleStory and SuddenAttack.
Well, why do I play this games? Well, because many friends and some of my cousins also play these games. Then I can call them and talk to them while playing. Honestly, I am not as good as my friends and cousins at these games. Thus I'm labeled as a "noob" by my friends.
What is a "noob", you may ask. Well, according to my friends, "noob" means a person who does a certain thing badly.
However, playing games is an enjoyment, it's not supposed to affect my studies. So I always limit myself to playing only 1 hour during weekdays and at most 3 hours during weekends. After I play games I'll normally do some revision of my schoolwork.
Other than playing games, I also love reading storybooks, especially non-fiction ones. Non-fiction books provide a deeper insight of the world.
I have just read a book, "Memoirs of Lee Kuan Yew, The Singapore Story". This book is written by MM Lee himself, and in this book he talks about building a nation from ground up and what he and the ministers of that time did to help Singapore from being separated from Malaysia.
I also read fiction books, especially those by my favorite author, Roald Dahl. These includes books like "Danny the Champion of the World", "Witches" and so on.
Not only this, I also like watching Chinese serial drama on Channel 8, such as 爱, meaning "love" in English. The drama is about families being broken apart by money. It sure is interesting but sometimes its a bit too long-winded.
Oops, it's time for something I enjoy too, sleeping!
Goodbye and good night!

A special moment I enjoyed with my family
Hello blog readers!
It has been a long time since I spoke to you because I was overseas at Hainan Island, China. Do you know why I went to such a faraway place? Well, because my 92 year-old grandfather suddenly wanted to go back to his hometown to visit.
His hometown is in a village in Qionghai, which is quite big but not very clean because there is poo all around as the chickens and ducks were allowed to walk around freely. My grandfather also had a piece of land there which was passed down from his father, also my great-grandfather. The size of the piece of land is around the size of my school's classroom.
Everytime my family and I goes back to Hainan Island, we would visit my great-grandfather's grave and pay our respects to him. My aunt would also pray for 4 numbers from my great-grandfather. Last year, many people in my family actually won 2nd prize in 4D. The 4 numbers were 0981. This year, we got the numbers 9531, but we missed by one digit, which my aunt attributed to the lack of shouting "Huat" (meaning getting a lot of money in Chinese dialect)) when in front of my great-grandfather's grave.
I really enjoyed the moment when I was at my great-grandfather's grave because I can pray to him and tell him what happened to me throughout the year. My aunt will also shout "Huat" very loudly and make my family laugh because it is very amusing. I have attached a video of my aunt shouting "Huat" and throwing the amulets over the grave.
Well, I learn a lot everytime I go back to my root of origins. I will always remind myself how lucky am I to be born in Singapore and to always remember our ancestors because without our ancestors, I would not be sitting here writing this blog post. According to the chinese saying, “饮水思源”(yin shui si yuan), meaning thinking of the source of water when we drink it, also meaning never forgetting our roots.
Well, blog readers, have you learnt anything from this post? I hope you did!
Goodbye!

My First Blog: My Thoughts about Blogging
Hello, blog.
This is my first web log (blog). I've been told to create a blog because of an assignment that is 50% of my CA1 English marks. Creating a blog was very easy and simple as it just uses the same email address as my Yahoo! email.
My assignment is to create 5 blog entries (excluding this) of 5 different themes that are 250 words each. This assignment will strengthen my ability to use language features and structures appropriate to a given audience and to entertain and inform effectively.
Firstly, I think that blogs are very good for expressing thoughts online. For example, I can write things that happen in everyday life that is intriguing for me.
Secondly, people can access my blog online and comment on my blog so that I can also know other people's opinions on that certain matter or issue. This is radically different from my experience of a diary. A diary is normally kept to oneself, while blogs are like a diary that is read by everyone.
Thirdly, this experience has brought me closer to the computer and be more familiar with it. In the past, I would just go to a bookshop to get a small scrap book to write a diary. But now, I would just power on my computer and go to Blogger to write about my feelings, which is much more convenient than looking for a scrap book to write my feelings.
Also, I can make announcements online so that my classmates will see my blog and will be aware of important school announcements that is critical. This is a much feasible way because many of my classmates are closer to their computers than their mobile phones.
Oops, I was so engrossed in writing this that I didn't notice it was almost time to get back to class!
Well, till next time!
Well, till next time!
Goodbye!
